IN MEMORIAM
Judge Robert I. Weil (Ret.) served on the Los Angeles Superior Court for 15 years and was Supervising Judge of its Law & Motion Departments. After retiring, Judge Weil was engaged in dispute resolution as a private judge. He was a former president of the California Judges Association, and taught civil procedure courses to literally hundred of judges and thousands of lawyers statewide.

IN MEMORIAM
Judge Ira A. Brown, Jr. (Ret.) was one of California's best known trial judges. He served as Law & Motion judge of the San Francisco Superior Court for over 10 years, was the Presiding Judge of that court and handled many of its most complex cases. Judge Brown is fondly remembered by lawyers and judges throughout California from his many appearances in continuing legal education programs.

Justice William F. Rylaarsdam is an Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District. Previously, he served on the Orange County Superior Court and the Los Angeles Superior Court. Justice Rylaarsdam holds an advanced degree from the University of Virginia Law School. He has served on the California Judicial Council, and has written and lectured extensively on civil procedure topics.

Presiding Judge Lee Smalley Edmon is the Presiding Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court and from 2007-2008 she was the Supervising Judge of the Court's Civil Departments. Prior to her appointment to the bench in August of 2000, Judge Edmon was a partner with the Los Angeles office of Dewey Ballantine, specializing in general business litigation. While in practice, she was active in a wide variety of community and bar activities, including serving as the President of the LA County Bar Association from 1998-1999. She remains active in court and bar activities and has served on the California Judicial Council. She is a frequent panelist on educational programs for the bench and bar and is a co-author of The Rutter Group's California Practice Guide: Civil Procedure Before Trial.
