Alternative Dispute Resolution -- Author Information

Judge H. Warren Knight (Ret.) is founder of JAMS, L.L.C. He has heard thousands of cases in all types of ADR hearing format. He has written and lectured widely on ADR topics and is known nationally for his expertise in this field. Judge Knight is a retired judge of the Orange County Superior Court.

Richard Chernick is an arbitrator and mediator of complex business disputes. He is Vice President and Managing Director of the JAMS Arbitration Practice. He formerly was a partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, specializing in nontraditional forms of dispute resolution. Mr. Chernick is past President of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. He is an officer of the ABA Dispute Resolution Section and a member of that Section's council.

Susan W. Haldeman is a member of the firm Gregorio, Haldeman, Piazza, Rotman & Frank, a professional mediation service based in San Francisco. She practiced law for several years before becoming a full-time mediator in 1986. She was formerly managing mediator for the American Intermediation Service in Los Angeles. She specializes in multi-party, multi-issue mediations and is active in training other professionals in negotiation and mediation skills.

Judge William L. Bettinelli (Ret.) is Chair of the Board of Directors of JAMS, L.L.C. He has served as a full-time mediator and arbitrator since 1991. Before joining JAMS, Judge Bettinelli served on the Sonoma County Superior Court. He is former presiding judge of that court and for five years was its sole law and motion judge. He has lectured widely on civil procedure, discovery and ADR topics.
